Salvation Mountain

Salvation Mountain isn’t just a mirage in the desert; if your photo album lacks a picture of it, you haven’t truly experienced California. This remarkable site was created over 24 years by an octogenarian named Leonard Knight. After becoming a Christian at 36, he passionately spread “God’s love.” While traveling with his homemade hot air balloon, he stumbled upon this desert gem and dedicated his life to building and painting Salvation Mountain. Lonely Planet magazine has named it one of America’s top 4,000 must-see attractions; in 2002, the U.S. Congress designated it a “national treasure”; and in May 2007, it was recognized as national heritage and honored by the American Folk Art Society. Frequently featured on the Discovery Channel, it’s beloved by influencers, tourists, and artists globally. With its vibrant colors, unique style, and profound meaning—congratulations, you’ve just become the highlight of your social media feed!

Noah’s Purifoy’s Desert Art Museum

Artist Noah Purifoy initially moved here to escape the high cost of living in Los Angeles. From 1989 to 2004, he spent 15 years in this location creating numerous unique artworks, sculptures, and even buildings using recycled materials. His 10-acre open-air studio in the northern desert region is filled with his installation art pieces made from discarded building materials, appliances, furniture, bicycles, and cars… The expansive desert backdrop gives these works a magical surreal quality. Each piece has its own story. After Noah passed away, a foundation was established to preserve this site and open it to the public for visits.
